Kannada and Culture Department Director Manu Baligar on Wednesday said that the department will soon place a proposal before the government to introduce training programme for the students ‘Jeevantha Nidhi’ by the senior folk artistes.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the silver jubilee celebrations of Karnataka Janapada and Yakshagana Academy he said that this is one of the steps to save the folk art. This scheme has been successful in Japan and the same model will be implemented in the State.
“Through this scheme the artistes will not only get aid but they will also help save the dying art,” he added.
Improvement
Former additional chief secretary Chiranjeev Singh said that there should be no differentiation between folk and classical art. All arts are equal. Every art has some elements of folk element in it. Moreover, the economic status of the artistes should be improved, he added.
Responsibility
Karnataka Janapada Parishat President G Narayana Gowda said that the street plays are becoming extinct in rural areas and that there is an urgent need to save the art forms.
