School in luxuriant land
Rajeswari Nandyal
Sai Angels Residential School is the only school in Chikamagalur affiliated to the CBSE and gives emphasis to the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and sensorial skills of the child.

A school for day scholars and boarders in the lush hills of Chikamagalur, Sai Angels Residential School, is the only school here affiliated to the Central Board for Secondary Education.

Managed by Sai Angels Education Society, the Institute starts with a play home and kindergarten, primary and higher secondary school and a pre-university college offering Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, with a combination of biology, computers and electronics to choose from. This institution is the first in Chikamagalur to offer management and technology courses. The school offers value based education and conforms to the motto, duty, devotion and discipline.

Set amidst the picturesque hills, designed by Mark Anand from New Zealand, the school in its fifteen acres presents its students well ventilated classrooms, well equipped labs for science, maths and computer sections, and a well stocked library for reference and circulation providing an encouraging atmosphere for academic excellence.

Emphasis is on cognitive, physical, social, emotional and sensorial skills of the child, adopting a sensitive approach towards the introduction of academic and other related skills. Along with schooling, facilities for sports lovers and a large adaptable hall for all activities are accessible here. Nature club and philately club, music, dance, swimming, yoga, illustration, painting, handicrafts and catering classes are various activities the students are encouraged to involve in.

The school made a humble start fifteen years ago, with two rooms and ten students. Its founders Mr Nagesh and Mrs Vijaya Nagesh were convinced by parents to start this venture in their house itself.

Today, the school has over nine hundred students.

A few financially backward children from the nearby villages are getting free education, uniforms, books and other essentials from the school, every year.

Free guidance for the common entrance test is given in the college premises for its students and also for other college students of Chikamagalur.

The school has secured 100 per cent success in its first batch of CBSE class ten exams.

The pre-school playgroup section has a cheerful atmosphere, is child friendly with ample play areas, safe play toys and affectionate teachers to help young minds develop the required mental and emotional maturity necessary to enter primary class.

A lenient use of picture charts, models, well-planned worksheets, flash cards, picture books, toys, audio visual equipment and other teaching aids assist in the learning process. All festivals are celebrated in enthusiasm to instil respect for all faiths in children.

The school has laid down regulations for its day scholars and boarders too.

During the child’s first stay in the boarding school no phone calls or visits from home are allowed. This is to help the child deal with emotional issues and accommodate to the present surroundings. Students are given frequent health checks and an in-house nurse is always present for immediate medical attention.

High-quality pure vegetarian meals recommended by dieticians are served to students. The school gives prime importance to cleanliness and hygiene.

The flourishing flora in the vicinity with butterflies fluttering away says it all. School authorities can be contacted at (08262)237297.
