Members of the Kolar District Committee of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha staged a dharna in front of the DCC Bank here on Thursday.
They were urging the authorities concerned to meet their several demands, including the revival of the DCC Bank and also sanctioning of new loans to the farmers.
Leaders of the Raitha Sangha Holuru Shankar, P R Suryanarayan, C D Ganglappa, C Gopinath, Gandhinagar Narayanswamy, T M Venkatesh and others lead the protest.
The protesters stated that all those who were responsible for the bankruptcy of the Bank should be identified and criminal cases should be filed against them.
The Kolar DCC Bank could not avail of the minimum benefits of the waiving of loans and waiving of interest schemes announced by the Government for the year 2006-2007.
The Bank which had already become bankrupt, could not even come out of Section 11. The Bank should be saved from one of the worst phases it was going through, the members urged.
Refinancing
The Bank should be revived in such a way that it should be in a condition to provide all kinds of facilities to the farmers, including new loans.
The remaining loan amount which the DCC Bank owed to the Apex Bank, should be rescheduled and the DCC Bank should get refinancing facility from the NABARD, the urged.
All those who were responsible for the present condition of the DCC Bank and the societies, including officials, politicians and the elected representatives should be identified and criminal cases should be filed against them, the members said.
A special package for the aid of the farmers and the DCC Bank who have been deceived of the loan waiver and interest waiver schemes of the Government, should be released in the budget 2008-2009, the protesters urged.
