Delimitation work yet to start in Dakshina Kannada
DH News Service, Mangalore:
The work on delimitation of constituencies is yet to start in Dakshina Kannada district.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Election Office sources in Mangalore said that a training has to be conducted for all the officials concerned and the date for this is not yet finalised. “Once the training is held (in Bangalore), the work on delimitation of constituencies would begin,” the sources said.

Till now there were nine Assembly constituencies in Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency. They were: Mangalore, Ullal, Vittal, Puttur, Sullia (from DK district), Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet (from Kodagu district). However, Vittal and Somwarpet constituencies will not exist henceforth while Madikeri and Virajpet will go to Mysore Lok Sabha constituency.

The new Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency would comprise eight Assembly constituencies that include Belthangady (hitherto it was in Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency, though it was in Dakshina Kannada district).
The new Assembly constituencies in Mangalore LS constituency include: Mangalore, Mangalore North, Mangalore South, Bantwal, Sullia, Puttur, Moodbidre and Belthangdy.

In Udupi
“Preliminary report on delimitation in the district has been sent to the Chief Electoral Officer in Bangalore on Thursday,” informed Udupi Deputy Commissioner P Hemalatha.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, she said it will be finalised within 2-3 days and added there were no major obstacles in the process.

The process of adding and deleting booths from the existing constituencies is almost over and now it was for the Chief Electoral Officer to decide whether the effort done is adequate or anything needs to be added. The procedure followed was according to the guidelines prescribed by the Election Commission, she informed.

In Chikmagalur
In Chikmagalur the work on the delimitation of constituencies is yet to begin. However, there will not be major changes in the district, according to officials.

Hitherto the Assembly constituencies in Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency comprised Chikmagalur, Kadur, Birur, Tarikere, Mudigere and Sringeri. However, after the delimitation of constituencies, Birur will not exist.
