One of the secrets of Tatas' Nano car was unveiled on Thursday as its workmen won the maximum number of prizes and bagged the ‘Best Company’ awards in the National Skills competition, organised by CII Institute of Quality and DGET.
CII had organised the 20th National Work Skills Competition and Second WorldSkills India Competitions here from February 25 to 28. More than 130 workmen from all over the country competed for national honours in 19 different skill categories.
Mico Bosch won the Best Company award for World Skills. Mr S K Kakkar, Head, CII Institute of Quality said that India had to revamp its skill development infrastructure to achieve sustainable competitiveness in the world market. Tata Motors Pune and MICO BOSCH are fine examples of setting up a robust system to develop the skills of their employees to achieve leadership position. However, India still has a long way to go to catch up with world leaders like Korea, Brazil and Switzerland.
Chief Guest Prof S Sadagopan, Director, IIITB while congratulating all the winners, said the country needs both ITIs and IITs. These two are like two eyes and both are required for the development of the country.
Mr N Srinivasan, Special Advisor, CII Institute of Quality applauding the winners of the Skill Competition attributed an ABC of skill development namely A = Aspiration / Attitude; B = Basic Building Blocks: Skill and Domain Knowledge; right infrastructure, training and mentorship; C = Commendation.
The other winners of the competition in different skills were: Tata Motors; MICO Bosch; Tata Steel; Denso India; Hero Honda; Worth Trust; Vellore; Godrej & Boyce; Caterpillar India.
