Surveillance, verification, interrogation, arrests are carried out, based on the case and are not against any particular community, said DG & IGP K R Srinivasan.
Speaking to the media on Thursday the police chief said: “Till now, seven persons have been arrested and we have substantial evidence to prove their 'criminal’ bent of mind. They are not arrested for just being SIMI activists or that they were heading and organising only meetings.”
DG CoD Ajay Kumar Singh said: “Arrests are not made to please Raj Bhavan and there is no political pressure and we are interrogating –– sympathiser, financiers, their links and members of the organisation.”
Srinivasan also clarified that the department has not instructed or issued any circular to educational institutions to verify students belonging to a section of the community or put them under the scanner at the time of admissions.
Vigilance
Srinivasan further said, “We have stepped up vigilance. Earlier it was confined to only the city, but now that the 'terror' tentacles have spread to interior parts of the state, we are much more alert. We are in touch with the police of Hyderabad, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and other Central agencies. Nasir, Asadulla, Asif and Shakheel have under gone for narco analysis.”
About Sameer's role, he said Sameer was the first contact to Yahya alias Kummukutti in Bangalore. In 1999, when Yahya came from Calicut, he was asked to get in touch with Sameer. There are incriminating documents to prove that he has played a vital role –– at least in the last four-five months. Yahya was working for Wipro GE Health Care till April 2007 and nearly thrice, he was sent to the US on various assignments.
Ajay Kumar also said that Yahya's dismissal from the company was due to professional reasons.
