Buffalo rescued from an open well in Kolar
DH News Service, Kolar:
A buffalo which had fallen into an empty well three days ago had a lucky escape on Saturday thanks to the efforts of the public, the police and the fire fighters.

The incident took place at Choudeswari Nagar in the City outskirts. The buffalo belonging to Manjunath of Choudeswari Nagar had gone out for grazing to the fields of one Govindappa. While grazing, the animal had an accidental fall  into an empty well, thirty feet deep. Due to the thick growth of plants and thorns around the well, nobody took notice of the buffalo that silently suffered inside.

However, on Saturday morning, some municipality workers who went to dispose of garbage into the well, noticed the buffalo and immediately informed the police.

The police and fire fighting squad rushed to the spot. It was an uphill task to bring the animal up that had sustained severe injuries. A crane was brought from the police department. The police and fire fighters were finally successful in bringing the buffalo up. The public helped the squad in their efforts. The animal has become very weak after being in the well for three days without food and water, said veterinary doctor Adam Shafi.
The buffalo is in a critical condition with several bones broken. City corporation member S R Muraligowda and others took the initiative in rescuing and handing the animal over to the owner.
