Land acquisition: Farmers protest
DH News Service, Tumkur:
Opposing the acquisition of farm lands for non-agricultural purposes, farmers and pro-farmer association held a convention and protest on Sunday near Lingadahalli.

Agricultural land is being acquired for industrial purposes. While the government snatches away the lands from poor farmers, it does not compensate them adequately, said the protesters. “We will not give away our lands. We will save them at any cost. We are not afraid of death. We want to live a dignified life,” said actor and Farmers’ land protection committee chiarman Ashok who belongs to a village near Lingadahalli.

Livelihood
“Farm is our very livelihood. For us, it is more valuable than  gold. Hence we should not allow government to acquire land according to its whims and fancies,” said the leaders participating in the convention. Karnataka regional farmers’ association president B Umesh, Journalist Ekeshwar, Kamaraju, K T Gangadhar and other leaders belonging to various organisations took part in the convention and protest.
