Roads that lead to misery
DH News Service, Tumkur:
The roads of a city are its introduction to the development. But if one considers Tumkur roads, be the main or the interior gallis one would be hard pressed to find a decent lane that would not have you taking the next available appointment with the orthopedic.

Among the 35 wards in the Tumkur district there are roads that stretch to a distance of 35 kms. If the pucca roads have not been maintained in a really long time, the mud roads are a nightmare of their own.

Repelling
In some places the drains are constructed higher than the roads and these open sewers spill into them creating a disgusting problem combined with repelling smell. During the previous coalition government the grant of Rs 54 crore to the administration for the development works was reduced to Rs 40 crore due to various mistakes.
This time there is a plan to rework the 500 km stretch of road in around the city with the estimated Rs 36 crore.
Though the process of inviting tenders is yet to be finalised, there is also an allegation that the political forces decide who the tender will be granted to.

However there is also no answer to the fact the tender process has been pushed forward four times
Survey

A survey was conducted and 23 roads have been identified for upgradation in the 22 wards. Even the under ground drain system has been recommended for repair works, while some need to be freshly constructed. However if this has to go through, then on needs to dig up the already built roads.

The scenario is not the most conducive and popular one among the drivers and the riders who dread to think of the eventuality.
