The revision of the voters list for the up coming Assembly elections in the State is being carried on with full speed, at least in Kolar. The wide spread discrepancies in the votes list had an estimated 10 per cent of the total names as bogus.
The revision is being carried on the orders from the district Election officer and Deputy Commissioner. Deputy Commissioner has already convened a taluk-level meeting and has also appointed Nodal officers for each assembly constituency in the district.
Suspended
Malur taluk Assistant Executive Engineer Radhakrishna and Women ITI college Principal Chidananda have been suspended by the DC for giving false report of the voters list revision.
In addition to this notice has also been sent to 5 other officials for their negligence. The Election Commission officials who visited the district on Saturday and Sunday have discussed the issue with the DC.
The officials also toured Srinivaspur, Mulbagal and Bangarpet taluks of the district and collected information about the voters list revision.
Criminal action
The Election Commission has strictly instructed the DC to take criminal action against those who have their names in more than one place. According to the rules a person is supposed have his name in one place.
The reason for the wide spread discrepancies is the inefficiency of the election officers who instead of collecting the information from every household in the village depended on the information provided by the local leaders.
The addition of bogus names clearly indicates involvement of political parties which want to taken undue advantage. Some times election officers are also pressurised by the politicians and parties to include non-existent names.
Though the deadline set by the State Election Commission to revise the voters list seems impossible, officials are doing their best keep up with the deadline which ends on the last week of March.
Discrepancies in the voters list has been found in every taluk of the district. For the purpose of finishing the revision by the end of March teachers, village accountants, GP secretaries and others have been roped in to do the task.
Though Saturday and Sunday are holidays DC and taluk offices were found functioning. Due to the strict order of the DC, tahasildars, CMC and TMC Commissioners were also working on the day.
