The official tenant is one, but the actual shop keeper is another. This is the fate of the CMC commercial establishment. The municipal administration built shops to help the petty shop keepers, but now find themselves check mated when these people have sub contracted the shops to others.
The CMC built these shops behind the Government College in Kolar. But last week when the officials paid a surprise visit to these establishments they found sub contractors to be running their businesses from these places. The officials downed the shutters and seized the shops.
Ten years ago the CMC constructed 35 new shops behind the Government boys college, as they has moved out the petty shop owners around the place. The shops were leased out to these people for a sum of Rs 25,000.
The CMC stipulated the least amount for them to help the needy and the poor.
Making more money
However these people are making more money than the CMC themselves. While some of them have sublet the shops others have taken deposits till upto Rs 80,000.It is against the law for the original tenants to either sublet the premises or make any changes to its appearances. But that seems to have made little difference to these people.
Punishment
The punishments for those who have broken the rules include eviction of the illegal occupants without notice, heavy fine for the original tenant and criminal charges can also be filed against them.
