'Inferior quality works at Astro turf'
Chief engineer takes officials to task
DH News Service, Madikeri:

Central Public Works Department (CPWD) Chief Engineer (south zone-3) S Chinnaswamy has bashed at the officials for inferior quality works in the asphaltation of Astro Turf stadium in the city during his inspection of the project.

After examining the quality of works in the stadium located beside the Madikeri-Mangalore road on Sunday, he expressed his strong disappointment with the officials.

Annoyed by the stadium filled with patches, Mr Chinnaswamy asked the officials what was the difference between common mud roads and the astro turf stadium. “How can we agree with such a poor quality in works? Don’t release money to the company that got the contract until they complete the works properly,” he instructed.
He also asked the officials to issue notices to Sports Technology Pvt Ltd of Australia that has got the contract of the works, and Jubilee Sports Company that was in-charge of the project.

He also criticised the Junior Engineer of Central Public Works Department  Mysore division for not examining the works properly and expressing his disappointment over the inspection report. Speaking to Deccan   Herald later, Mr Chinnaswamy said the department would give more importance to quality constructions.

One cannot maintain a project on every other occasion. It should be of at least 50 years durability. Hence, strict instructions are being given to all officials, he said.

He assured that the Astro Turf project will be completed by March this year.

Central PWD senior officials, Sports Authority of India (SAI) administrative official C A Karumbaiah and others were present on the occasion.
