TV SERIAL
Tickling the funny bone
B s srivani

The husband-wife relationship continues to provide fodder for many a standalone comic as well as serials. Sihi Kahi Chandru popularised the travails of a husband and wife to hilarious effect in Paapa Pandu, laughing all the way to the bank later. Now, it is the turn of his wife, noted actress Sihi Kahi Geeta who turns director with Point Parimala. Why a comedy?

“All these days we have seen comedy of several types of characters. But I am presenting the humour of women who are wives. Their viewpoint as wives has its own humour which has to be explored. Point Parimala however is not all comedy,” says the actress. Before the brows go up, she elaborates: “Life is not permanent. There should be trust between the partners, some mutual respect. There is lot of scope for laughter in our lives. We should lead our lives cheerfully in the face of adversity. We read lots of incidents in the papers these days. Despite repeated appearance of such stories, many families, particularly women are still gullible.”

“I believe this medium will at least have a positive impact on them. We have incorporated lots of real life incidents into our story. I am confident that my serial will be of some help to the people.”

Point Parimala is the story of Parimala, a simple minded housewife, whose sole aim in life is to keep her lawyer-husband Pundarika happy, at any cost. Unluckily for her, her attempts to appease her Pati Parameshwar end up in disaster for Pundarika. The serial touches upon various issues that are familiar to  housewives and married working women alike— blind faith, tantra, superstition and the like.

To add to Pundarika’s woes, Parimala conducts a daily court at home for each argument they have! “Most of the families have one or the other such idiosyncrasies. It is my intention to bring out these problems and suggest probable solutions with a touch of humour,” director Geeta says.

Point Parimala, to be telecast on Kasturi every evening at 7 pm from today, has Pramodini playing Parimala while Jehangir plays her harried husband. Neetu S Kumar is her beloved sister. Geeta will be assisted by Prithvi Kulkarni, while screenplay and dialogues are by M S Narasimha Murthy. V Manohar has provided music and lyrics for the title song.

Inspired by her guru, husband Chandru, Geeta has started a production house SK Visions, to provide a platform to raw talent, and to those who come from theatre, hoping to gain a foothold in the industry. Geeta hopes to make at least 250 episodes of the serial depending on the TRPs. Her ambition? “To direct a nice, interesting film, of course!”

Haasya Lasya
More on comedies. Haasya Lasya, earlier telecast on Udaya, has made a comeback after nearly seven years with the original characters Yajamana and Gunda.

This time, the emphasis is on rural folk. Again, the characters make a spoof of things like the people’s fear of hospitals, problems faced in cultivation and most important of all, being possessed by gods and spirits alike! The comedian duo of Mutturaj and Srikanta promise that each episode has a message to convey. Likewise, each episode will feature a different comedian from Gandhinagar. Haasya Lasya is being telecast every Saturday and Sunday at 10.30 pm.
