DH News Service,Mangalore:
Ms Shakunthala Kamath started her career as a lecturer in 1989 at Narayana Guru College. On July 2, 1992, Principal G K Shenoy told her that her services have been terminated and physically prevented from entering classrooms.

*Ms Shakunthala Kamath started her career as a lecturer in 1989 at Narayana Guru College.
* In 1991, she was appointed as full time lecturer with a salary of Rs 1,000 and at the same time, she was in-charge Principal.
* On January 23, 1992, the Narayana Guru College Management issued the order (as a permanent staff) on substantive basis before Mangalore University (MU) affiliation commission and promised to pay the salary as per MU statutory rules.
* On June 10, 1992, the Management orally requested her to hand over the charge. Ms Kamath, in turn asked the management to give a relieving order. However, they allegedly snatched the keys and broke the Principal’s room lock.
* From June 27, 1992, Ms Kamath was not allowed to sign the staff attendance register and she worked without signing the attendance register till July 2, 1992.
* On July 2, 1992, Principal G K Shenoy told her that her services have been terminated and physically prevented from entering classrooms.
* Ms Kamath filed a case in the DK Educational Appellate Tribunal. In 2000, she won her case. The court ordered to reinstate her and pay her salary from June 1992.
* The Management appealed against the court order in High Court, which too upheld the District Court decision.
* On March 28, 2003, Ms Kamath wrote a letter to the Management that she will join on April 7, 2003.
* On April 7, 2003, College Principal refused to accept her to report for duty saying that Management will impose certain conditions on her reinstatement.
* On April 8, 2003, Management laid down certain conditions which were contradictory to the court order and stated that she will work for a salary of Rs 1,000 and will be a standby lecturer in Political Science.
* In Contempt petition, the High Court ordered to sue the management in District Court. Accordingly, Execution petition 58/2003 filed, the management deposited Rs 1,33,000 (Rs 1,000 per month from June 1992 to March 2003), which she was unable to withdraw.
* Ms Kamath filed a writ against the same in the High Court, which accepted that the conditions laid down by the Management were illegal and ordered to release the amount within a week.
* In the Ex-petition, the District Court ordered the management to pay at least the salary paid to the other staff joined with Ms Kamath and re-instate her unconditionally as lecturer in Political Science from November 14, 2005.
* Ms Kamath joined on November 14, 2005. However, she was subjected to mental torture, humiliation and harassment.
* Ms Kamath was made to sit on a peon’s chair at the entrance of the office room. She kept a name board displaying her name and designation to avoid people treating her as peon. For which she was served a memo.
* In the meantime, High Court ordered the management to shift Ms Kamath to staff room and to give her classes. However, the management reportedly violated the court order. But, Ms Kamath herself entered the staff room and occupied an empty table and chair.
* She was not allowed to attend any staff meeting nor was her name entered in the staff list sent to PU Board and Mangalore University.
* Ms Kamath was paid a salary of Rs 986 after deducting PF amount but PF number was not given so far.
* On June 2007, the Management terminated the services of Ms Kamath without enquiry stating that she remained absent for her duties from 2003 to 2005.
