Notorious rowdy Thimmenahalli Govinda alias Nayi Govinda (39) was butchered to death on the bylanes of Govindarajanagar, in Vijayanagar police station limits, late on Sunday.
Sources said a rival gang attacked Govinda and his three associates and hit him on the head, killing him on the spot. However, his associates escaped.
Police have yet to release their names. DCP (West) Sharath Chandra visited the spot and shifted the body to Victoria Hospital
Govinda had been released from prison six months ago. He was involved in more 27 cases, including two murders. He had killed his uncle in 2001, fuelling gang rivalry.
This is the second murder committed within a fortnight due to gang rivalry. The murder of charge-sheeter Dhanashekar was also suspected to be a result of Sunil and Break Jaggi gang rivalry.
Scribe harassed
A senior lady journalist was allegedly harassed by cops from the Basavangudi police station on Sunday evening. She was taking a stroll with her husband in Bugle Rock Park when the cops questioned them. When she asked for their identification, they are alleged to have verbally abused her.
She identified herself as a member of the press, despite which was forcibly ferried to the police station along with her husband. It was only after the jurisdictional DCP intervened, that the cops apologised.
