Six accidents were reported in the City which claimed five lives and left several critically injured.
Two people and a KSRTC bus driver were killed on the spot and 15 injured at Bidadi junction, when a KSRTC bus rammed into a stationary bus on Saturday.
Police said the bus was speeding towards Bangalore from Mysore. At Bidadi junction, bus driver Hanumantha Kenchappanavar failed to spot the stationary truck parked on the roadside and rammed into it.
The impact was so severe that the bus driver Hanumantha (34) and a passenger Deepak (32) died on the spot while fifteen others sustained injuries. Among the injured, two who are said to be serious were rushed to Manipal hospital. Deepak was a native of Nanjungud in Mysore. Bidadi police have registered a case.
In two hit-and-run cases on Saturday, a person lost his life, when an unknown vehicle knocked him dead at HSR Layout. The deceased has been identified as Tej Bahadur Chhatri. In another incident, the victim Shetty lost his life when an unidentified vehicle ran over him at Banashankari near Bendre Circle.
A pedestrian, identified as Madappa, 60, resident of C V Nagesh Estate was on his way home when an auto-trolley overturned crushing him on Sunday. He breathed his last on the way to hospital. Police seized the auto-trolley and arrested its driver Eerappa.
On Sunday, a mother and daughter were seriously injured when a BBMP garbage truck hit their scooter from behind on Chord Road in Vijaynagar. The victims - Priya (19) and Rajeshwari (45) were injured when the truck driver tried to overtake the scooter. Priya was riding the vehicle while Rajeshwari was pillion rider. While Rajeshwari sustained severe head injuries, her daughter received injuries on her legs. They were taken to NIMHANS and their condition was said to be critical. Angered by the incident, people dragged the driver out of the vehicle and roughed him up and handed him over to the police.
