Increase farm productivity through technology
DH News Service,Madhugiri:

Farmers in order to compete in the international market should enhance the quality of their produce and increase their production. Also, they should seek the guidance of experts in the field, suggested M L Narasimhamurthy, former president of Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
He was speaking at the National Farmers’ Day celebration at Madhugiri taluk, which was jointly organised by the Krishik Samaj and the Agriculture Department.
The farming community should increase their production  by making best use of new technology, innovations and generate more income. Thus, proving the fact that farming can be profitable too, observed Mr Narasimhamurthy.
In the changing agriculture scenario more thrust should be placed on food processing sector. Moreover, the agriculture department is striving to introduce Agricultural Produce Processing and Market Contact Scheme, in order to help the farmers earn more income.
Instead of the farmers directly selling their produce they need to process their produce, so that they get better prices for their produce in the market, said Assistant Director, Agriculture Department D S Somashekar.
Moreover, the Agriculture Department and the Women and Family Welfare Department will provide assistance to the NGOs and the SHGs in setting up of the  food processing units at a subsidised rate. The farmers’ community should make best use of this opportunity, he added.
