The sleuths of Coastal Security Police seized one idol of Sri Rama and two idols of Sri Krishna from a person who was trying to sell the same, at Alangar near Moodbidre on Sunday. The arrested is Moideen (24) of Savanur in Karkal.
Acting on a tip off that Moideen is in possession of idols of antique value, the Coastal Security Police laid a trap and acted as potential buyers and called Moideen. As soon as Moideen arrived at the particular place, he was nabbed. Three idols were seized from him.
The value of the idols in the international market is said to be over a crore while they may easily fetch a couple of lakhs in the local market, the police said. However, the kingpin is said to be absconding and Moideen is only a link. CSP have transferred the case to Moodbidre police station. Further investigations are on.
