DMK Men Set Fire To Buses
Madras, Jan 6
Mount Road, the nerve centre of the city, was the scene of two hours’ reign of terror this evening when over 20,000 Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam demonstrators pelted stones, brickbats and other missiles on the police, transport vehicles and shop windows.
Police lathi-charged the riotous crowds and fired tear-gas shells in four places. A number of arrests were made.
Further Slash In Soviet Forces
London, Jan 6
The Soviet news agency, Tass, today announced the Soviet Union’s armed forces were being cut by a further 300,000 men, Moscow Radio reported.
Military units and formations totalling more than 41,000 men are being withdrawn from East Germany to Soviet territory and disbanded.

Congress(I) Routed In State
Bangalore, Jan 6
Though the four-party Opposition alliance has severely battered what has been deemed so far as an unbeatable Congress(I) bastion in Karnataka, it has missed narrowly securing an absolute majority to form the Government on its own.
Chief Minister Gundu Rao submitted his resignation to the Governor soon after his defeat in the Somwarpet constituency in Kodagu by Janata-Ranga candidate B A Jivijaya.
