Celebrity piano recital

Bangalore School of Music is organising a celebrity piano recital by Grammy nominee Joseph Banowetz from USA on January 8 at 7.30 pm at Alliance Francaise, Thimmaiah Road, Vasanth Nagar.

The first prize graduate from the Vienna Akademie fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst, his teachers’ have included Carl Friedberg (a pupil of Clara Schumann) and Gyorgy Sandor (a pupil of Bela Bartok).

Banowetz has been heard as a recitalist and orchestral soloist on all continents in over thirty countries, with performances in past seasons with the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the Moscow State Symphony, the Prague and Bratislava Radio Orchestras, the Budapest Symphony, the Concert Society Orchestra of Barcelona, the New Zealand Symphony (on a twelve-concert national tour), the Beijing Central Philharmonic, the Shangahai Symphony, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Banowetz was awarded the Liszt Medal by the Hungarian Liszt Society in Budapest, in recognition of his outstanding performances of Liszt & the Romantic literature.

Described as “a giant among keyboard artists of our time” by Fanfare Record Review (US), as “a magnificent virtuoso who amazed the public” by Russia’s News (Moscow) and as a virtuoso in the noblest sense of the word by Ruch Muzyczny (Warsaw). This several recordings on compact discs have included notably both Liszt Concertos and Totentanz, world-premiere recordings of all eight of the Anton Rubinstein piano and orchestra works and solo repertory of Bach, Balakirev, Busoni, Chopin, Debussy, Godowsky, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Rubinstein and Stevenson. Banowetz has also been internationally recognised as an author & editor.

His book The Pianist’s Guide to “Pedalling” has to date been printed in five languages. He has served on many major piano juries and has been invited to teach and lecture at London’s Royal College and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Julliard in New York City & renowned world academies. He is a member of the international Steinway Artist Roster.
