READER'S OPINION: Qualities of an ideal leader...
Ashok Nagarajan

Arjun Shankar, lawyer:

Nelson Mandela, anti-apartheid and former President of South Africa, is an ideal leader. According to me, an ideal leader should not have any selfish interests and specific agenda of his own. He should work towards the welfare of the people by whom he is chosen to represent them.

He should do what people want and what is best for them When a leader comes to the forefront, he should strive to deal with current issues as problems keep changing.

Thimmaih: Homemaker

Leaders should be honest with a focus on good governance and ensuring a non-corrupt government.

The common man is fed up with bribery and the rise in corruption. Today, there is not a single government service that functions without the employees and bureaucrats openly demanding that we offer them money. The agenda of any leader or governing authority should be to develop the City in terms of providing its citizens with good infrastructure, education and health facilities.

Prakash S V, businessman:

A good leader is one who can understand the economic, infrastructural and future requirements of the country.

He should be able to shoulder responsibility and be in the position to resolve any issue that his people, especially the poor, face.

It isn’t enough that he is able to sit in the comfort of an air-conditioned office and develop major cities alone.

And most importantly, they must divert all the energy used to talk into some concrete work.

Ashok Abhishek, student:

An ideal leader should be able to stand up for his/ her people and be free of corruption.

A leader should not, in any circumstance, be elected based on his fame, money, his status or because he campaigns with celebrities. Instead, it must be based on what he has done for the people, his academic qualifications and his vision for the state or country.

In a nutshell, a leader should focus on the people and not on making money for himself.
