Speaking after inaugurating Ranga Pratibha festival of plays, directed by young directors in Bangalore on Sunday, Prof Kambar said setting up a theatre museum helps in evoking interests among the public about the subject.
Prof Kambar said countryside would be a better place for the museum instead of the capital city. “People in cities are not interested in history. They are lost in the world of television serials. Whereas people in rural areas can look after a museum,” he said.
Reacting to Prof Kambar’s appeal, Kannada and Culture department Principal Secretary I M Vittal aMurthy said he would prefer Hampi to set up the museum.“I request Prof Kambar to prepare a draft of the project and submit it to the department. The project will be included in the budget for the coming year”, he said.
Karnataka Nataka Academy President Srinivas G Kappanna said 10 young theatre directors are presenting first shows of their latest production in the festival. Each troupe will get Rs 39,000 as honourarium for staging their production. Central Sangeetha and Nataka Academy has extended financial support for the festival. This festival will help in driving more people to the theatre.
Dr O P Bharati, deputy secretary of Central Sangeetha and Nataka Academy, said support for young talents always proves fruitful for the growth of the medium.
