You can be a part of India's most dynamic youth theatre movement. The orientation meeting for Thespo 9, annual youth theatre festival will be held at Centre for Film and Drama on July 21 at 4 pm at 5th Floor, Sona Towers, Miller's Road.
Do you have a script that you must make something out of and are wondering how to go about it? Want to perform in a play and looking for a way in?
Trying to figure out what needs to be done to stage a play and how to work with lighting? The orientation meeting is a call for budding actors, directors, scriptwriters and stage managers to dream out loud.
In 1999, Theatre Group Bombay (TG) and Q Theatre Productions (QTP) created Thespo as a platform to provide youth with an opportunity to dab in all things theatrical on a professional stage via interactions with experienced theatre-wallahs.
There is just one stone embossed rule - all participants must be below the age of 25. Thus, through Thespo, TG and QTP endeavour to recognise and encourage new talent, and create a new generation of theatre-wallahs.
Thespo provides free hall space, lights, sound, make-up, and even gives the participants a percentage of the ticket sales. Thespo also provides space for learning and guidance in terms of technical and dramatic knowledge to the teams.
Starting this year, Thespo is catering to theatrical tastes that go beyond the stage with a Radio Play and Documentary Film Competition, there's more drama to be aired and captured. Interested in riding the techno boom? In dabbling with the possibilities film and broadcast have for the performing arts?
From its sapling stages as a one act play festival to a year round activity culminating with a festival at the end of the year with entrants from Bangalore, Delhi and Kolkata, Thespo has made and continues to make its presence felt in the world of theatre.
