Ganges’ an online art gallery previewed an exhibition of 23 artists from across the country at the Windsor Art Gallery recently. The blend of styles, mediums, colours, and choice of artists were interesting.
Prominent at the display is was Bengal art. Arvindam Datta, Avisnkar Mitra, Barun Deb, Prangopal Gosh, Soumen Saha, Soumita Kar, Suman Chowdhry stole the show with their portraitures.
Among the artists from the City were J S Mani — former principal of Ken School of Art with his Badami Series, Nikhil Rajan Pal, a water colour artist, who has portraitures in pen on acid free paper, there’s Jasu Rawal, has worked well within the periphery of semi abstracts with colourful depictions of rural life.
S Krishanppa has to his credit several awards and his inimitable stylistic line drawings have drawn admirers. Milind Nayak has always been fascinated by nature and his depiction of the dancing bamboo was impressive. C F John had an interesting portrait entitled ‘Maria with Spiral,’ abstracts by Sumana Chowdhry, Goutam Sharma, was also attractive. Asok Mondal, Arindam Dutta, Avisankar Mitra,Bhaskar Lahiri, R Usha Devi, Shanmugham Srinivasan and Bhaskar Rao had their art work on display. Bhaskar Rao’s acrylic on canvas title ‘The Relic,’ and Soumen’s watercolour wash, a riverine landscape drew great appreciation.
Arindam and Chandranath’s work revolve around mythology that interprets contemporary consciousness. Soma Das of Ganges says her work is about the cycle of life, existence and nature where there’s the harmonising of multiple influences, distribution of human figures, folk traditions, elaborate pattern and geometrical designs. The artists celebrate colours, forms, freedom, identity and play with the concept of fusing dualities.
