She creates magic with her fingers and toes. For Rashmi Rachel George, life itself is so motivating that no other inspiration is required. She paints her emotions using her fingers and toes. Her passion for painting is displayed in her work.
Though she is a self-taught artist, Rashmi holds a formal degree in Art History from Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. There is great maturity in this young painters art. Her paint comes alive to the viewer even without the use of colour. Her paintings are a brilliant blend of boldness and serenity.
Inspiration
When asked about her inspiration Rashmi says, “My greatest inspiration is love”. She loves travelling and paints what she sees. She is fascinated by good art. “Hampi is my favourite place in Karnataka, obviously next to Bangalore. History and art excites me and this place is filled with them”, says Rashmi who has often been travelling to Hampi.
She has other passions too, travelling, history, historic art and food. She has interests in interior designing, jewellery designing, fashion designing and everything that is good work.
“I see myself in most of my paintings, but otherwise they are people (women) I meet, anybody who interests me or conversations I have had, good and bad ones”, she says. Each of her painting has a story behind it. She makes the viewer wonder and her job that is done.
“The only way I feel the most naked in thought is when I portray nudes. Women are the embodiment of all that I believe and try to depict, since I truly believe, they are God’s greatest gift to ‘man’ kind,” says she. And that was the theme of her debut exhibition of her collection, ‘Rasula’, the woman without any inhibitions.
Rasula is a woman who fights with life and then makes peace. She is strong yet delicate. Rasula is very personnel, leaving space for a variety of mixed feelings. And these were the kind of portrayals of Rasula in different kinds that were depicted in her collection.
Her exhibition was inaugurated by Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, who commented, “Rashmi is a young talented artist. Her paintings are innovative and modern. She will go a long way”. Rashmi has great confidence in herself and believes she is good at what she does.
She is working on her next collection which is also women centric and says, “You will see more of my work in the coming year”.
