Bangalore might be attaining worldwide fame as an IT city but technology-related infrastructure inside its government offices is quite pathetic.
The head of the printers used to issue various certificates is in a worn-out state for nearly a year at the Yeshwantpur RTO. “The digits of zero, eight and six are hardly visible. Despite repeated complaints to top officials, there is no action taken,” said an official source.
An open advertisement of the shabby infrastructure in place is the citizens’ information kiosk installed at the entrance of this RTO. It has not been functioning for over six months, according to insiders. “This is due to a software problem,” said a tech-savvy official.
This kiosk was supposed to provide visitors to the RTO the information which is normally displayed on a big board titled `Citizens charter’ inside any RTO. It is supposed to give details on these three key services: Licences, Registration of Motor Vehicles and Collection of tax.
Details on the application form, prescribed fee and documents to be enclosed and time details for all the categories is supposed to be listed on the system. The kiosk looks new and attractive. Is it only meant to be a decorative piece?
