Rekha, housewife: I don’t think high rise buildings are safe. Nobody is following the building laws. Safety measures are not being taken.
There are certain rules that have to be followed in the construction of a building and these laws are being violated.
If only everybody followed the rules many such fire accidents can be avoided. Apart from being unsafe these buildings are adding to the pollution. The government should take steps in finding solutions. Violators of the law must be punished to see a better Bangalore.
Amit, student: We are running short of land here in Bangalore. And high rise buildings are the best solution. But safety measures have to be taken.
Good builders and good quality materials used in construction will save us from such accidents. Security is a must.
Proper electrification should be done in huge buildings. They should have proper fire alarm security. They also should be well equipped to handle emergency situations. A solution to this would be moving to the outskirts.
Pavan Shukla, software engineer: Mishaps like fire accident can happen in any building. Height does not matter. What matters is the security measures. Adequate security measures to face any kind of emergency should be available in public buildings like malls, theatres and working places.
First-aid and sprinkler facility and a regular check of buildings for short circuits are must. Though the one solution to the increasing population is high rise buildings, proper construction and good builders will save the public from such accidents.
Rupali Sahai, scientist: Builders should follow the rules laid. Nobody knows when an accident can happen, that is why they are called accidents. We should be ready. Fire safety measures have to be taken especially in tall buildings. They are filled with people all the time.
Fire safety measures have to be taken. Though certain accidents in tall buildings are justifiable, like the little child falling from the second floor, there are other accidents which could have been avoided with a little more attention.
