Subbaraya Hegde and Vatsala Hegde didn’t know death was lurking around their only daughter Anushree when she left for school on Monday. The parents were inconsolable when Deccan Herald visited their house.
Mr Hegde said, “Anushree had sustained injuries on her right leg two months ago while alighting from a bus.
Since then, I’ve been dropping her to school. We used to leave the house around 8.15 am every day. Today, I thought we could start early to avoid traffic, but how could I imagine I would be losing her? It all happened in seconds.
“I’ve never met with an accident though I’ve been riding my bike for over two decades. I worshipped God despite facing several odds, but God didn’t turn up for help when I needed him most. With my daughter gone, God has also died for me,” he said, as tears rolled down his cheeks.
Abrupt end
He added, “My daughter was brilliant. When her right hand was fractured, she wrote her exam with the left hand and stood first in her class. She had plans to join IIT and become a scientist. But her dreams have been reduced to nothing.”
One of the teachers of New Baldwin Residential School said, “Anushree joined the school in the first standard. She was very talented and became vice-captain of the school. She was equally talented in extra-curricular activities and used to win prizes every year in cultural competitions. We were expecting her to set a new record in SSLC.”
A minute’s silence was observed at the school to pay homage to Anushree. Classes were also suspended on Monday.
