The College of Fire Engineering and Safety Management in Belgaum is offering some rare courses. The courses aim at inducing life long learning and knowledge, for social and personal development and to provide trained human resource, sharpen leadership qualities etc.
The courses are - one year course in Fire Engineering and Safety Management, one year course in health, environment and safety engineering, six months course in fire engineering, six month course in safety management, six month course in environmental engineering.
Fire engineering can be defined as the application of scientific and engineering principles, rules and expert judgement based on an understanding of the phenomenon and effects of fire and reaction and behaviour of people, property and the environment from the destructive effects of fire.

Fire engineers find job openings in the government fire services, architectural and building design, insurance assessment, project management, aircraft industry, refineries, industrial processing and in any area where the possibility of fire or combustion represents a hazard with increasing urbanisation, the use of electrical devises, appliances and office automation has become a must in most of the homes. The situation, in turn, increases the possibilities of eventualities.
Fire engineers play a pivotal role in ensuring protection and taking the necessary precautions. A fire engineer understands the nature and characteristics of fire and the mechanics of fire spread and the control of fire and the associated products. He should be able to control the origin and spread of the fire within and outside buildings/structure.
The increasing number of fire disasters in refineries, petroleum plants, industries and other strategic places is causing tragic loss of precious lives and large scale destruction of property. This confirms the necessity of fire fighting engineers.
Practical training
As per the syllabi, the course structure is designed. Practical fire drill and demonstration encourage students to build their fire fighting knowledge. During practical training, students visit places like Aurangabad Airport, shipyards like those in Goa, five star hotels like Rama International.
During these visits, students get an opportunity to understand the working of various fire protection equipment and systems like crash tender, sprinkler systems, systems at shipyard, etc.
