Farmers suicides and agriculture crisis in Karnataka Unfortunately, the spate of farmers suicides is on an upswing and still counting.

Glut in production leads to despair Mounting debts and continued loss of crop has forced more than 30 farmers to end their lives in Belgaum.

The only relief for farmers Not less than 10-15 farmers from Dharwad district alone committed suicide. This prompted the government to constitute a committee to find out reasons for the suicides. It is not known if the recommendations were implemented or not.

Loan waiver, hardly a magic formula The increasing number of suicides has only come to prove that the governments move to waive co-operative loans is not the right solution for the problem.

Indian victims of floods affecting their village travel in a country boat in Duganga village, some 75 km from Agartala on Wednesday. Continuous monsoon rains in the last couple of days caused floods and landslides across the Tripura state as a tribal youth died and two women were seriously injured due to landslips according to local media reports.
