Little kids, big thoughts
Saheer Karimbayil

Tejaswini Rajkumar and Vignesh Sri Ram Prasad have grown above their age. These two kids are representing the City in the national finals of ‘Horlicks Wizkids 2007’, one of India’s largest inter-school fiesta. The event will takeplace on November 21 at the Ambedkar Bhavan.

Tejaswini, a class 10 student, has done a project on ‘Energy crisis in India’ while Vignesh, a class VII student has finished a study on ‘Peace and harmony’. Tejaswini says that saving fuel is an effective way to solve the energy crisis in the country. While drivers in the vehicles waiting for the traffic signals waste 12 percent of the fuel by not putting their engine off, incandescent bulbs causes a 20 percent energy loss. Indian oil companies produces only less than 10 percent of the required fuel. But if we are a little careful, we can save energy in different ways and it will help the country in attaining its goal of being self sufficient in generating energy.

Elaborating on his project  Vignesh said, "A society will be peaceful and harmonious only when its members are happy and cotented. This happiness should come from within. It cannot be inculcated. Even failures in the life should be accepted with a smiling face. If everybody in the society maintains such an attitude, we can bring about a peceful and harmonious world".

The objective of the festival is to encourage talent and spirit of participation among young students. A total of 54 kids from 27 cities- two each from a city- will compete in the finals. Four final winners of the event will be selected for a tour to Brazil on a cultural exchange programme.

The event of 'Horlicks Wizkids 2007' will be divided into two sections- Pre-event stage and event stage. During the pre-event stage, participants will undergo project presentations, interviews, group discussions, games, psychometric tests and other evaluation methods. On the day of the event, the finalists will undergo a cultural introduction round, talent round and judges' question round. The contestants will be evaluated and judged at both the stages.

Four students with the highest cumulative score in all rounds of the 'National Finals' will be crowned Horlicks Wiz Team 2007. All through the event, the kids will take up the cause of Global warming in association with Green Peace and spread the message in their locality and city.
