Symphonia, a music ministry group, sets the ball rolling for the Christmas season, with its 50th stage performance named ‘O Come Immanuel’ on November 24 and 25 at Guru Nanak Bhavan at 7 pm.
Every year, Symphonia has two concert - a secular concert in March and a spiritual concert in June and July. Symphonia has a vast repertoire - songs that include sacred music, and a varied assortment of music including hits from Broadway, opera choruses and interesting arrangements of a variety of songs - classical and popular. Besides Bangalore they have performed at Hebron School, Ooty, All Saints Chruch, Conoor and Mountain Home School and Junior College, Conoor.
It will be first time that Symphonia will be giving a Christmas music concert to the people of Bangalore. Heralding the oncoming Christmas season to the City, the concert will share the message of Fulfilment of the Promise-Birth of Love. The choir will be conducted by Gladys Mohanraj and accompanied by Sunalini Ramesh with Sudhakar Doraiswami’s orchestration. Juonitha Jayant, Amintha Jayant, and Dheeraj Jayanth will accompany Mohanraj on keyboard and Desmond D’Souza on drums. There will be community carol singing led by guest artiste Maya Mascarenhas Samuel.
Proceeds from the programme will go to Asha Nikethan, a home for mentally challenged and Ashraya, a school for mentally retarded children. With the motto ‘social service through songs’, Symphonia has, over the years, helped raise funds for Jyoti Seva’s Home for the Blind Children, Association for Community Care, Education and Social Service, Kutumba, Liza’s Home, Diya Foundation, Bangalore Baptist Hospital, Koramangala Methodist Church, Infant Jesus Charity Home among others.
