Om Swami showcased his talent yet again in his solo show ‘Pan-ecstasy’ organised by Gallery Hues as part of their exhibition ‘Sounds of the Brush’ at the Raintree. Om Swami, a self taught artist, is today one of the better known names in the art world. His paintings portraying vibrant semi- abstract forms of Ganesha in earthy colours with Sanskrit shlokas and calligraphy draws a clientele of the likes of Vijay Mallya and Kunal Ganjawala.
His artistic journey at the age of 28 when, with absolutely no certified knowledge in arts, he put up an exhibition at the Leela Art Gallery, Mumbai showcasing his talent. Inspired by the tremendous response he received, he decided to take up painting as his career Subsequent to this exhibition, he did more solo shows in Bombay, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore and Madras before he moved to other major cities across the world including Dubai, Singapore, Hongkong, Malaysia, Mauritius and the US.
His most preferred form of painting is acrylics on canvas which he feels helps him to experiment with different textures. Lord Krishna is his inspiration and most of his paintings center him.
The theme of his painting includes both Buddhism and Hinduism. Depending on his mood he takes nearly five to six hours to complete each piece of art.
His next series will be on Goddess Durga. Also, in the offing are Jesus, Krishna, Vishnu and the mother and child subject that seem to have an universal appeal. He also has an interesting subject in mind, perhaps not in the immediate future, which is the Kamasutra series.
‘Art is an inborn talent and cannot be inculcated from others’. I have my own distinct style in presenting my views through art and this uniqueness has got me so far. My dream is to bring “art to every art lover's home”, he added.
