Liquor worth lakhs seized

Excise sleuths raided a government godown on Kadugodi Main Road and seized unaccounted liquor bottles of fast moving brands worth lakhs of rupees on Sunday morning.

The manager of the godown and three others have been taken into custody. Sources said, the officials procured liquor directly and pushed it to various outlets on Airport Road, Varthur, HAL, K R Puram and Hoskote. The incident came to light when discrepancies were found in the stocks and the indent.

Thieves’ gang busted

Byatarayanapura police arrested a gang of habitual thieves who were on the prowl on Saturday night. Arun, Kiran, Shankar and S Kiran were caught when they were hatching a plot near the Anjaneya Temple. According to the police, SI Manjunath got a call about the gang moving around with lethal weapons. The cop immediately took the help of a Hoysala vehicle and managed to nab the culprits. Search is on for Praveen Kumar and Ashok, who escaped.

Houses burgled

Miscreants burgled a techie's house in Kaggadasapura and fled with valuables worth Rs two lakh. According to Mahadevapura police, the victim Sunil had gone to Thiruvananthapuram along with his family. On their return, they found that the main door had been forcibly opened using a crowbar and the culprits had made away with jewels and other valuables.

In another similar incident, a Tilak Nagar resident has complained to police that when his family was watching television in the hall, miscreants had entered the house through the rear door and decamped with Rs 50,000 worth valuables.

Constable ends life

A dejected police constable consumed poison and died at Victoria Hospital. Shivashankarappa (45), was married with two children and lived in the KSRP Quarters in Madiwala.

Eve-teasing proves ‘costly’

A cement godown manager has been arrested and charged with an attempt-to-murder by the Electronic City police on Sunday. Rajappa, alias Bheema Raja (38), of Chickabegur had warned Kantaraja (22) who ragged his daughter, to mend his ways. But on Saturday evening, he roped in another half-a-dozen people and attacked the boy after the situation allegedly went beyond the lines of decency. Kantaraja is said to be in a critical condition. Ramesh, Kumara, Muniraj, Muthu, Naga and Suresh who were part of the attack, are absconding.

Old woman dies in kitchen fire

A 65-year-old woman burnt to her death when she accidentally caught fire while cooking on her kerosene pump stove on Sunday. The deceased — Bhagyamma — was living alone after her husband death, at her Gayatri Nagar residence in Subramanyanagar police station limits. The police said she was suffering from eye-sight problems and might have tripped on the stove.

Another senior citizen, a resident of Hunasoor, collapsed and died in front of Ambika Kalayana Mantapa in Kengeri police station limits on Sunday. Gudda Shetty (65) was asthmatic and had come to the City to attend a function. His body has been shifted to Victoria Hospital.

Housewife set ablaze

A 22-year-old housewife set herself ablaze at her house in the Vasanthapura slum in Subramanyapura on Sunday. The deceased — Kumaramma — was the second wife of Prakash. Police said the couple had regular fights and on Friday, she threaten her husband with suicide. In a fit of anger, she set herself ablaze and was shifted to a hospital. After battling for nearly 52 hours, she was declared dead on Sunday morning.
