Poetry for Ramzaan
MP
Bangalore-based Urdu poet Haamid Baaqari has come out with a booklet of poems on the significance of Quran and Ramzaan called Qur'aan, Ramadhaan aur Hum. The booklet was launched last week by Dr Saad Mohammed, Chairman, Bangalore Islamic Foundation Trust. A surprise visitor at the launch function was Nusrat Mirza, Chief Editor of Nawaaye Waqt, a Pakistani newspaper.

Qur'aan, Ramadhaan aur Hum consists of five poems in Urdu which are transcribed in English. The meanings of difficult Urdu words are also given in English. Haamid has followed the same pattern in his earlier two volumes of poetry. The first poem Dua is supplication to the almightly, Naat is a poem in praise of Prophet Mohammed.
The simple but effective words in the couplets comes out in poems like Haq Bayaani which means ‘Speaking the truth’ (Lab pe mere jo haqbayaani hai/ bas ye moula ki meherbaani hai). Qur'aan ki zindagi is a poem about living life according to the tenets of Quran. Maahe Ramadhaan is about the importance of the month of Ramazaan.
This is the third volume of his poetry (ghazals and nazms) to be published. Haamid also composes music for his poetry.  He not only composed music for his first volume Tere Hoton pe but also held five public recitals. His second volume of poetry was Humsafar.

Syed Haamid Hussain Baaqari hails from Alipur, Bangalore. He started singing professionally in Hong Kong. He later turned to writing poetry in Urdu. He composes music to his poetry and sings. He is one of the pioneer to have his own website of Urdu poetry www.haamidbaaqari.com in Karnataka.
