M S Ramaiah College of Hotel Management recently organised Xenius, a bunch of competitions covering the concepts of hospitality. The main competitions were under the titles Ambrosia, Dionysia, Olymbia and Athena.
Ambrosia was a cookery competition which tested the skills of the participants and also assessed their ability and creativity in cooking, with a time limit and in front of the audience. The participants were given one hour before their competition time slot for preparation.
The participants were asked to prepare a continental menu. It was a basket cookery concept where all the ingredients in the basket must be used. The students were assessed on menu planning, cooking- starter, main course and dessert, use of ingredients, portion size and meal satisfaction.
Dionysia, a cocktail making competition aimed at showcasing the creativity and skill of the participants in terms of preparing and presenting cocktails.
In this competition each participant had to prepare and explain five different cocktails in 10 minutes. Marks were given to appearance, taste, method, explanation, viva, flair, organisation and hygiene.
In Olymbia, the participants had to race against time to complete a set of activities testing their hospitality skills. Athena was a quiz competition comprising two rounds of one minute each. The first round was on the topic of students choice and the second round was on current affairs and general knowledge.
Prizes were awarded to the winners by eminent personalities from the hospitality industry and Gokula Education Foundation.
The college also organised ‘Annual Ganesh Celebrations’ on September 19. The celebration started with a pooja at 9.30 am, followed by a cultural programme highlighting the significance of Lord Ganesha in Indian culture and portrayed a depiction of the myth of his origin in the form of a dance drama. The day ended with a lively procession towards the Ganesh visarjan at the Sankey Tank.
