This is no conventional dolls’ house for Dasara with its traditional nine-steps. Clearly, these are dolls of our times. Representing unconventional ideas, issues of current interest and sporting highlights.
Come Dasara and the Raos – Vimla and Sridhara merge tradition with modernity. They have been doing this for the last 30 years or so. Apart from the traditional set of dolls, they have the breathtaking elephant procession made to move on a disc fixed on to a motor. Now, how many of these have you seen before?
Vimla says, “Last year it was ‘Suvarana Karnataka’, this year, we have the Bangalore metro rail. I went to the metro rail office, collected print-outs and I have put up a chart showing the proposed route information about the project and those in charge of the project. The 3D metro rail model is not what you expect to see with the dolls. But there in lies its novelty.
One also gets to see the earth going around the Sun and rotating on its own axis. Which brings out the spirit of sharing knowledge in them. “This would the benefit the students as well as the elders,” adds Sridhara whose brainchild this is. A retired civil engineer Sridhara and Vimla, who had worked with Time Life for 12 years, says it’s all in the family. Aptly, age has not withered them nor custom staled them.
