Designer and decorative boutiques and exhibitions are springing up throughout the City but Kahawa, the designer studio and a gallery for art and crafts, has carved its own unique individualty in the world of these challeging community crafts centres and designer boutiques.
Kahawa, situated in the heart of the City on Cunningham Road (Kareem Towers), gives a unique experience for shoppers with products that boast of a combination of traditional patterns and ultra contemporary styles designed by up and coming designers in the City. This unique boutique gallery works as a platform for those without a space to showcase their talent.
The designs which come directly from the designers include a wide variety of products starting from jewellery and garments to artifacts and decoratives. The studio also offers a collection of maverick decoratives and accessories from Africa.
Decorative elements such as artefacts, wooden figurines, paper lamps, wall hangings, African masks, sleeping mats, bags, chappals, olive wood carvings, candle stands, cushion trays, decoratives handpainted by African tribals and so on find space on the racks here.
The studio also showscases a wide range of silver creations which come with semi-precious stones (Swarovski and Neelam stones), such as bracelets, amulets, rings and earrings both in contemporary and ethnic designs.
Other attraction of Kahawa is the Maharaja range of sarees from royal house of Mysore which has some exquisite palace range collections like Pashmina silks, natural silks woven in chiffon and pure Pashmina silk.
The exquisite clothing collection also have designer kurtis from Mumbai, unstitched salwar materials and designer sarees from Tumkur and Mandya like zardosi sarees, mughal art sarees, hand embriodery sarees and Parsi embriodery sarees.
Kahawa has become a role model by setting up such a platform for the upcoming designers and traditional craftsman who are struggling to showcase their maverick talents. The shop has already got ready to welcome the festive season of Diwali and Dasara with their spectacular array of designer products. Last week, the gallery organised an ‘all night flea market’.
The event was organised from 7 pm to 11:30 pm. All the products in the gallery were up for sale. There were many interested buyers and many others who dropped by to check out the flea market. In all, an interesting event.
