It is time that we had a full-time arts company in the City whose main focus will be the promotion of arts and of new talent" says a confident Sushma Veer.
This talented actress with an impressive lineage (she is the Late Gubbi Veeranna's great granddaughter), recently announced the creation of an arts company, KathaKar. But Sushma is just one of the visionaries of these dream project, well known playwright Mahesh Dattani and actress Rubi Chakravarti have teemed up to create this company.
The interesting aspect about this will be that as far as possible the company will try to tackle all forms of art. "We will make a script, do a play and do a movie. We want this to be a complete process" says Rubi.
Another main reason for creating the company says Sushma, "We don't have people dedicated to art full-time. People are usually have other jobs and do theatre on the side.
And this is justifiable because the money isn't great or consistent in theatre. We will try and change that with KathaKar— we will pay our people well and take a completely professional angle.
Because people don't consider acting their primary profession, we always have to work according to their schedules.
We will be taking a more serious professional approach, it doesn't mean we don't encourage part-timers but we are hoping to create an environment for people to take up arts seriously." KathaKar is debuting with a play 'Seven steps around the fire' written by Dattani. They are already in the process of making this into a movie.
Sunil Bannur, a techie and a theatre person joined the team to help structure and manage the company, giving it that professional touch. The team also has a host of young talent on board.
The first production will be at The Park hotel in Bangalore on September 15. The premiere is open only to a select audience, the group is currently in the process of deciding public shows.
