After Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) has now targeted prime minister Narendra Modi over his degree.

Addressing the grand rally of Maha Vikas Aghadi, Thackeray took potshots at Modi.

“What kind of degree is this that when asked about it, a fine of Rs 25,000 is imposed?...What type of degree does the prime minister have that he can’t show it to anyone? Forget the Prime Minister, even the college should be proud of him studying. When I became the Chief Minister and Jayant Patil (of NCP) became a minister both of us were felicitated by our alma mater Balmohan Vidyamandir in Mumbai because they felt it was a proud moment for the institution,” Thackeray said at the rally.

Taking the issue further, Thackeray’s aide and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut too targeted Modi.

According to him, the degree should be displayed at the grand entrance of the new Parliament building.

“Some people are calling the PM’s degree a fake… I sincerely believe that the Degree in Entire Political Science is historical and revolutionary. Hence it should be displayed at the grand entrance of our new Parliament so that people stop raising doubts about it,” said Raut.

However, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Ajit Pawar said that the nation is faced with burning issues rather than the prime minister’s qualifications.

“He has been the prime minister of India for nine years. Was the degree a requirement to get that job?…was he elected because of that degree?....the country is facing issues like inflation, price rises, unemployment and the deteriorating law and order situation. “I think the day-to-day problems of common people are more important and we should focus on those issues,” he said.
