4 held for shooting Najafgarh MLA

New Delhi, June 3, 2012 , DHNS

‘Personal enmity behind the attack’

Four men have been arrested from Vasant Kunj in south Delhi for the attack on Najafgarh MLA Bharat Singh and his relative Dharampal at Dichaon Kalan village in Najafgarh, police said on Sunday.

According to Police Commissioner B K Gupta, Vikas Dagar alias Vicky, 28, a resident of Jharoda Kalan village, and his three associates had shot Bharat on Saturday morning over personal enmity.

The incident took place when Bharat, Delhi unit chief of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), was about to enter his office at 8:30 am.

Dharampal was also shot in the attack when he tried to interfere after the Najafgarh MLA ran inside his office.  “Enmity between Vikas and Bharat started after Bharat summoned two of Vikas’ relatives to his office at Dichaon Kalan after a committee floated by them went defunct last year.

“He had also allegedly humiliated them, which was not liked by Vikas and his family members,” Gupta added.

Vikas’ associates involved in the attack have been identified as Virender Sehrawat, 23, of Deenpur village, Kuldeep Mittal and Sumeet Singh, 28, of Jharoda Kalan.

“They were held over a tip-off that armed miscreants involved in the attack on Bharat would come to Kishangarh village for collecting money,” Gupta said.

Police also recovered a 0.30 bore pistol along with a magazine and three live cartridges from Vikas’ possession, a 0.38 revolver along with 12 live cartridges and two empty shells from Sumeet, a 0.30 pistol along with two magazines and eight live cartridges from Virender and a magazine and seven cartridges of 0.30 bore from Kuldeep.

All the accused were subjected to interrogation, during which they confessed that they were involved in the attack.

At their instance, two motorcycles used in the crime have been recovered from the parking lot at Sai Baba Mandir in Najafgarh and Dwarka Metro station.

Vikas told police that his aunt and her husband, residents of Haryana’s Bahadurgarh city, had floated a fund in which each member had paid Rs 50 lakh.

Some of the members later decamped with the money, due to which the fund got defunct.
“One of the members whose money was not returned by the husband-wife duo approached Bharat for helping him in getting the money refunded. In June 2011, Bharat summoned the duo to his office and directed them to pay the money after humiliating them,” Gupta added.

“This was not liked by Vikas and his family members. Vikas also claims that he had assaulted Bharat when came to his village in June 2011, but this matter was not reported to us by Bharat,” he added.

A case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code has been lodged against the four men with Baba Haridas Nagar police station.
