Depot number two/three of the North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) caught fire on Wednesday. The extent of damage is estimated to be huge. At last count, eight parked buses were completely gutted.

The fire spread rapidly to many of the parked buses and their tires began to burn uncontrollably billowing black smoke.

Hundreds of tires have caught fire. The two depots on fire- numbers two and three stocked a total of 2000 tires.

The people in the yard and people in the surrounding area are anxious that the fire may spread.

Fire department personnel who rushed to the spot are struggling to douse the spiraling flames.

Police said that depot number two which caught fire soon after depot three, is surrounded by  a residential area. The people in the houses have switched off their LPG cylinders fearing the blaze will spread to their houses.

Though the fire tenders have exhausted the water they carried to the spot, the blaze is yet to be brought under control.
