Last Updated 03 July 2015, 14:51 IST

During Ramzan, it is a tradition among many Muslims to break their fast with dates. A dry fruit shop at Russel market offers 64 varieties of this fruit to help them keep the tradition going.

The owner of the shop, Mohammad Idrees Chaodhary, is a big fan of dates. He says dates are juicy and come without any processing or chemical ingredients.

Due to the popularity of dates, shop owners in Bengaluru  have been importing different varieties of the fruit. The exotic varieties which are brought in from Iran, Iraq, Tunisia, South Africa and Saudi Arabia look and taste different from the regular dates you may be familiar with.

''Ajwah'' comes stuffed with dry fruits. A popular, but expensive variety, it is sold at Rs 4200 per Kg.  Medjoul King, sugar-free dates from South Africa is good for diabetics, but costs Rs 2400 per kg.

There are also choices for customers, who are budget-conscious and still look for exotic varieties.  Sufry from Iraq, Kalmi from Madina and Sukry from Saudi Arabia are sold between Rs 400 to Rs 800 Rs a kg.
