The bus strike affected normal life across Karnataka, including Bengaluru, on Monday. Over one lakh employees of four state road transport corporations have gone on an indefinite strike demanding a salary hike.
The government has a declared a two-day holiday for schools and colleges in several parts of the state. Commuters without own vehicles had to rely on private autos, which were seen charging exorbitant rates.
Major city bus stands were deserted as people knew it was futile to try to find transport there. A few children were even seen playing cricket at the Kempegowda bus stand. Many out-of-station travellers were also seen stranded here.
The hardship on commuters in state and city may continue for sometime. KSRTC employees told Deccan Herald that they would continue with the strike till the government agreed to their demands.
