Normalcy has been restored in Haridwar after a stampede claimed the lives of at least 16 devotees on Tuesday. Thousands of devotees converged on the banks of the River Ganga for the famous Aarati at dusk. The devotees participating in the rituals even tried to downplay the stampede saying that such incidents were common at crowded places. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister, BC Khanduri yesterday announced a compensation of rupees 2 lakh to the kin of each of the 16 killed in the incident.
