Foodpanda fully integrates into Ola

Ola, India’s most popular mobility platform, on Wednesday, fully integrated Foodpanda app to its platform.

The ride hailing company announced its acquisition of India operation of the Germany based Delivery Hero Group in December last year.

"Over 150mn Ola users, now get direct access to Foodpanda - largest active online user base in the country. Millions who will possibly make their first food order online on the Ola platform, thanks to this integration," a company official said to DH.

For existing users of both apps, this is about a seamless experience. The integration enables a single signup using Ola customer ID and can now use a single login to access both the platforms.

"We will be able to serve many more hundreds of thousands of customer requests every day beyond the current 300k/day volume," states the official.

Ola also scaled up its back end capabilities accordingly to handle the kind of massive traction from this integration. The technical team made it possible through Progressive web app of Ola.

Foodpanda India CEO Pranay Jivrajka said Foodpanda’s deep integration into the Ola app is a huge step forward towards our mission of delivering superior food experiences to a billion Indians.

"Through this integration, we are enabling access for over a more than 150 milion users across the country, possibly the single largest online user base in India. Such first of it’s kind scale and outreach will not just enable first time online food ordering experience for millions, but also create a seamless and consistent experience all the Ola users," he said.

Jivrajka said as one of the pioneers and innovators of India’s digital economy, the company is are thrilled that the Ola platform now solves for two of every consumer’s most important needs – mobility and food.

Ola announced the acquisition of Foodpanda via an exchange of Ola stock to Delivery Hero Group. The ride-hailing company also committed to invest $200mn into the Foodpanda India business.

Foodpanda India claims 12,000 restaurant partners in over 100 cities. That investment is more capital than Foodpanda’s (many) competitors in India have raised to date. The company will benefit from Ola’s scale and efficiencies as a platform.

Ola recently closed a $1.1 billion funding round led by Tencent and SoftBank in October, and seeking ways to differentiate itself from Uber’s Indian business.

Ola was founded in Jan 2011 by IIT Bombay alumni Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati. Ola, formerly Olacabs, is India’s most popular mobility platform having users across 110 cities can book from over 800,000 vehicles across cabs, auto-rickshaws and taxis.
