Reliance Jio prepares for next big leap!

Last Updated 19 April 2019, 10:14 IST

Zooming in a car and getting every bit of detail like James Bond does or experiencing the Mount Everest or jungles of Amazon sitting in the drawing room of your smart home or empowering Kirana shop owners like megamalls - Jio is set to make the next big leap.

It’s like entering into a world of science fiction of the legendary Carl Sagan and experience it becoming a reality.

The Jio Experience Centre (JEC) located in the Reliance Corporate Park (RCP) at Ghansoli in the satellite township of Navi Mumbai, nearly 40 km away from downtown Mumbai, gives a peek of what is in store and what is the future.

Literally, its like sky is the limit - and its like you are over the Moon.

Through a series of launches and roll out of Jio services and applications during 2019-20, Reliance Industries Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani is planning to take on some of the biggest giants in the arena of the digital world.

“Jio’s motto is simple: We are determined to connect everyone and everything, everywhere – always at the highest quality and the most affordable price,” Ambani stated at the 41st AGM of RIL, last year, speaking of Jio’s plans for future.

The team of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd is virtually burning the midnight oil to ensure that everything is in place.

Located alongside the Thane-Belapur Road and the trans-harbour line of the Central Railway - that runs almost parallel to quite a distance, the RCP, that is surrounded by serene hills - and it’s here most of the think-tank job is underway.

The Jio Experience Centre - that is divided into various sections - takes a visitor to a totally different level.

Photography, videography or any form of recording is not allowed but officials are more than forthcoming to share information related to what is in store - as one enters the high-tech Jio Experience Centre.

“Our motto is to make lifestyle better by empowering people to live a digital life,” said a top official, as he took a select group of journalists to the JEC, the nerve-center of different initiatives - while explaining gadgets and apps.

More scope

“The phone and a SIM card is a great device....now the scope of these devices is expanding...we need to harness the power and that’s exactly what we are doing,” he said.

Quoting figures of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the official said that Jio has been topping in Internet speed in India - and it’s going to go better and better in the times to come.

The Jio Media Cable is one of the new innovations - which lets JioPhone connects to your TV to stream content, live channels and more.

“You can see 650 plus channels,” he said. A small adapter and a cable - does all the wonder of streaming on your TV set, the new ones as well as old TVs.
The next stop was Jio Car Connect.

“The onboard diagnostic port is a very important device. Generally, it is used in the service stations,” he said, adding that the device makes it your car a WiFi car.

“From the OBD port solution one would be able to connect eight devices....and driver behavior can be known....sharp turns, harsh braking, tow notification and so on,” he said, adding that a virtual fence could be created and if your driver goes out of it after dropping your kid in school, you would get a notification.

Smart Home

Another pathbreaking thing is the Smart Home. “The optical fibre cable should not remain in the junction. It should come to your home,” the official said. “It’s going to lead to an interaction of TV, music, and movie,” he said, giving a demonstration on how you can accept a video call directly on your TV.

“We have nuclear families....the entire family sitting here and chat with their parents on their other end - and interrupted high-quality video,” he said.

Other accessories among it also include a smoke sensor, gas leak sensor, water leak sensor, door sensor, surveillance cameras and more. Besides, it is going to take entertainment at home to a new level through virtual reality.

“The Giga Fiber would change out homes they way something that you can not think of,” says the official adding that it’s all about Internet TV, HDTV, TV on Mobile, VR, Wi-Fi, home security, STB, something like all together.

“It’s going to change our lives,” the
official notes. The Kirana stores would also see a revolution with the Reliance Jio’s PoS device that accepts cards and wallet payments from BHIM and Jio Money.

“The kirana stores would be able to function like malls,” the official said, adding: “PoS is the next big opportunity in fintech,”

As far as the prices of the emerging products are concerned, the official said that the policy of Reliance and Jio is to cover as much as possible so prices have to be “affordable and competitive” - and this is the mantra the company has followed.

“We are creating a digital ecosystem and we want people to be involved and hence the pricing would be in accordance,” he adds.
