90-day action plan for solving woes of Mahadevapura

The BBMP has promised a 90-day action plan for solving the problems in the Mahadevapura zone.

Residents of Mahadevapura had organised an interaction with Mayor R Sampath Raj, MLC Rizwan Arshad and joint commissioner Vasantha Kumari, Mahadevapura, on Wednesday, to discuss problems and resolve them.

Anjali Saini, a resident who participated in the interaction, said:”We have been assured by the mayor that a 90-day action plan will take up issues related to dry waste collection centres in the ward, proper street lights and also regarding the solid waste management problems in the ward. We have been asked to make a list and give it to him so that they will resolve the issue soon.”

Residents also demanded the mayor to depute a separate BBMP chief engineer for their zone. “Right now, we have Parameshwaraiah as the Chief Engineer, who is looking after the Yelahanka zone along with ours. But our own zone has about 40 wards and we need a designated person here,” she added.

Sampath Raj said he supports demands of the residents.

Another problem that the residents faced was that of obtaining khata certificates, which seems to be resolved as the mayor has suspended the revenue officer for taking bribe before issuing the khatas.

“The mayor suspended the revenue officer on Wednesday. Out of 2,000 and odd property owners, only 740 of them were issued khatas. The remaining are hoping to receive their certificates soon,” said Anjali.

The residents also said that the Deputy Chief Minister and Bangalore Development Minister G Parameshwara will also visit them shortly.

Pourakarmikas protest for wages

Pourakarmikas from Mahadevapura staged a protest in front of the BBMP zonal office on Wednesday after the BBMP failed to pay their wages pending for five months now.

More than 700 sanitary workers, from 18 wards of Mahadevapura zone, came together to protest. Unpaid since January, the pourakarmikas took to the streets on several occasions, but of no avail.

Appanna, a member of the BBMP Guttige Pourakarmikara Sangha, said: “Of the total 3,500 pourakarmikas in Mahadevapura zone, at least 3000 workers have not been paid for the past five months.”

“The protest been stopped after the Joint Commissioner promised to credit the amount within three days,” he added.

Mayor R Sampath Raj told DH: “The issue has been resolved and only a few people are facing the problem because of technical issues.”
