JOIN USThe Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) counsel on Wednesday submitted to the High Court of Karnataka that the BBMP will revisit laws under which the impugned notification regarding pet licensing was issued.
The submission was made in response to the disappointment expressed by the court over the notification comprising bylaws pertaining to pet licensing.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Krishna Dixit was hearing a petition filed by Indira Gopal Krishna, a resident of Sadanandanagar, NGEF East, who challenged the urban government’s notification regarding BBMP’s bylaws concerning registration and licensing of pets. The BBMP counsel submitted that they have received various requests from animal lovers and pet parents with regard to this. The counsel sought time to revisit the rules, but the bench observed that it had to be done today (Wednesday) itself as the issue had two core aspects that had to be addressed — that of emotional overbearing and the core legal aspect. he bench also orally observed that there was something seriously amiss in the notification.
A pet parent will have to pay Rs 1,000 fine if he/she did not get the licence.
The petitioner also stated that the new rule will promote auction of dogs and their exploitation by illegal breeders.
