Bellandur Lake: BDA to join hands with BIAL, CII

Last Updated 15 October 2018, 10:15 IST

In another attempt to rejuvenate and revive the Bellandur Lake and other lakes, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) proposes to create a governing structure and a long-term association, BDA Commissioner Rakesh Singh said.

On Sunday, Singh along with Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) Managing Director and CEO Hari K Marar and Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) Karnataka chief Neil Castrino, went on a maiden field inspection. The visit and the meeting aimed to create a community participation programme for the restoration and maintenance of Bellandur lake and other lakes under BDA’s custody.

The group will help in creating different structures for the city lakes. It will also help involve the community in the restoration and maintenance of the city lakes.

Singh said that it was still in the planning stages. It will take shape and be finalised in the coming days ahead. He added that getting ideas and people together was a problem for the BDA and not the funding. The association will address that gap.

As part of the visit, they also inspected the sluice gate and the sewage treatment plant at Bellandur, Varthur, and ST Bedsides. They also discussed the creation and maintenance of the wetlands.

The BDA and other officials are waiting for the National Green Tribunal (NGT) verdict on Bellandur and Varthur lakes to take up more developmental works.
